Yes, we know it’s our career. Now that that’s cleared up, HOW do we actually OWN it?
Don’t you love the advice “Own Your Career”? I remember the first few times I heard this. I sarcastically thought to myself “Ok, I will own my career now, thanks!”, as though it previously belonged to someone else and now that management told me it was mine, I would miraculously be able achieve my career goals. Many companies tout support for employees to raise their hands and ask for opportunities, without providing real direction or advice on how to do so. And so, we flounder, spinning in circles “owning” our careers, leaning in until we’re falling over. Having gone through a variety of experiences and eventually leading teams or priority…

Chasing Balance? Try Just Being Present Instead
Balance nounbal·ance | \ ˈba-lən(t)s : an elusive idea often found in fairytales, usually results the pursuer feeling defeated and guilty for not having found it. Yes, I made that up. But you get it. WHO came up with the idea that work-life balance is an actual thing? This would suggest that work isn’t our life and that there’s a magical separation between the two. And don’t we sort of work for a LIVING? Work and Life couldn’t be any more intertwined if we threw them in a blender. It’s natural to set resolutions with the end in mind. A new job, healthier lifestyle,…

Truth is, everyone’s a mess.
Thank you, sweet baby Jesus (for the record, I’m not being tongue-in-cheek. I totally give Him the credit when I find peace wiggling into my soul). It’s a pivotal moment when you realize that you’ve been FREAKING out your entire career trying to smash your goals and keep up with the Joneses, only to realize you ARE smashing goals. And frankly, it’s good to hear everyone else is also running a race thinking they are trailing behind the front runners. Major. Lightbulb. Moment. Let me be honest. Every time I pick up my phone, I go straight to Instagram. Then to Facebook. Then to Twitter. Actually in that order without…

Taking the Leap
Hello, world! I have been waiting a LONG time to connect with you and am excited to finally take this leap. As a wife, mom of 3, CEO of the household, and a career woman, it seems my life is a movie reel of stories, often times more like a comedy of errors… And I’m hoping I can share them with you, and that they’ll serve as a resource. I’ve run the gamut of what some would call to be mishaps in my life (Surprise, you’re a mom at 19! …for starters) and have done very little by the proverbial book. Ironically, I believe the successes I have enjoyed have been a direct result…
